Home Is Where The Heart Is -The 2011 Morgedal Games Wraps Up

This past week people from around the globe caught planes, buses and ferries to get to Morgedal, Norway for the annual Morgedal Games. Guests who arrived in Morgedal by bus were dropped on the side of a quiet road in the middle of a small valley, the heart of Telemark.  Many must have wondered  where in the world they had traveled to!

It is not a ski resort or even a tourist town. So straight away people realized that this telemark festival was unique. This year nine nations were represented and about 200 competitors competed in various events throughout the weekend.

These included being towed by snow machines  into the backcountry behind Morgedal, jumping and testing the original wooden ski designs by Sondre Norheim, Dog sledding on the lake in Morgedal and the Norheim Telecross event.

The Telemark gathering in Morgedal has a special atmosphere and the town is excited about continuing with this event in the future. Every telemark skier needs to make the pilgrimage to Morgedal at least once in their lifetime and rediscover the soul of freeheel skiing. See you in Morgedal next year!
