With the inaugural 2012 Teva Winter Mountain Games Telemark Big Air rapidly approaching, we are serving up an appetizer with some profiles of some of the invited athletes. Since the competition is being held in Vail, CO, we decided starting with local Vail athlete Christopher Ewart seemed like a no-brainer.

Christopher has been dropping a knee for the past six seasons and is no stranger to pushing the limits. With published photos in Telemark Skier Magazine and SkiingMag.com, as well as numerous shots on the Vail and Beaver Creek websites and in the Vail Daily, Mr. Ewart clearly knows what it takes to get out and work hard as a telemark athlete. The 23-year-old has an impressive sponsor list that includes Liberty Skis, Scarpa Boots, Beaver Creek Resort, Transition Sports, First Drop Outerwear, Ravinos and Kind Design Clothing. Chris is quickly establishing himself as one of the more recognizable names in the world of telemark skiing.

“I’m extremely excited to meet and ski with some of the guys I’ve been watching ski for years, and we finally have an event to get us all together,” said Christopher. “Also, the fact that it’s under the lights, in front of a huge audience, hitting the same jump as a bunch of guys on bikes, it’s going to be an awesome show.”

When not shredding Colorado powder or training for big air events, Christopher works as a full time EMT for both Vail Valley Medical Center and Beaver Creek Medical Center. For more on Chris, check out his website HERE

The Competition is slated for Saturday, February 11th at 6:30PM near the Gold Peak base at Vail. It’s an invitational event with a qualifying round earlier in the day for non-invitees. The jump is expected to be between 50 and 60 feet, and the event will be the first of its kind in the world of telemark skiing. With a cash purse of $5000.00 for the top three finishers, the caliber of competition should be top-notch. Find out more about the event or register yourself HERE.
